I was at a party a little while back and some fellas were making predictions about how the Saints were going to do this year and everyone was really getting in to just how good they thought the team would be. Guys, were saying, “Going to the Super Bowl!” and “They aren’t going to be that good but I think they are going to the playoffs!”
When it got to be my turn I just said “8-8.”
It was received very well but I simply said that I have no idea how they are going to do because they are, after all, the Saints. And simply because they are such it is easy to say they will go 8-8. It’s actually not such a gloomy outlook. They only did it once between the years of 1967 and 1982. 8-8 must have seemed like the Super Bowl then.
So, 8-8 in 2009 /2010, 2010 / 2011, 2011 / 2012, 2012 /2013 … The Vargmatrix is the never-ending prediction that the Saints will go 8-8 until Armageddon
The Saints went .500 once between `67 – `82, if that’s what you meant, they only started playing 16 games in 1978.
However, they’ve been decent overall since Benson took over in `85, especially if you take out the miserable Ditka years when the team was floundering around post-Finks.
I kind of like their chances to get 10 wins this year; the Falcons still look good, but I predict the Panthers will be down because of Delhomme’s decling arm (yes, even with taht incredible run game) and the Bucs will be way, way down (no real QB, sheddding quality good ver starters, etc.). I think the Saints can go 5-1 in their division, though playing the AFC East will be tough (we might go 1-3 there).
Yea you right about the percentage. I meant .500. Yea you wrong about the 10 wins and division record.
