The title of this posts refers to two local gentlemen.
The first was the unfortunate robber who chose the wrong couple to pull a gun on Tuesday night. The other is Criminal District Judge Charles Elloie, who was recently barred by the Louisiana Supreme Court from participating in any behavior resembling an actual judge. Not that he was actually doing that anyway.
Elloie’s suspension is reason to celebrate. The death of the robber is not exactly worthy of a party, but it is, unfortunatly, something that many New Orlenians have been waiting for for a long time. I see concealed handgun permit classes around town all the time. It was just a matter of time before something went down, particularly in the Marigny, where violent crime and robberies were increasing steadily since the population started coming back to the city.
I have never been a supporter of guns in a civilized society. However, it seems as though New Orleans is becoming less and less of a civilized society. It is unfortunate that this man and his wife are going to have to live with the memory of the incident for the rest of their lives. Their actions however were neccesary. Not only in the realm of their evening stroll but also in the city of New Orleans. With Judges like Elloie sitting on the bench, who else is going to protect us?
