New Orleans committed four turnovers, dropped several passes and was called for 11 penalties for 102 yards. New Orleans tried to catch the Vikings off guard with an onside kick, but Minnesota recovered, setting up Longwell’s 53-yard field goal, which tied his season long.
Yes, Bush ran back two punts for scores but he also fumbled twice and lost both of them. Sucks to lose like this but the close ones can be blamed on Coach. I think perhaps a better effort to get in the end zone on the Saints second-to-last possession might have been appropriate. Or at least get the hobbled and sketchy kicker in better range. Go ahead and take the chance. Brees was on target most of the night and has great stats in enemy territory. Go ahead Coach.
Then the pass interference call sealed their fate.
Brees is amazing but he got picked twice as well. Though that last Hail Mary can’t be held against him.
If I used that God-awful, XFL-generated phrase “smashmouth football” I would apply it to this game. In the interest of literacy I’ll say it was a course and brutal contest that left many players shaken up after tackles and blocks.
After a while all this”we should be 5-0 stuff needs to fade and folks should realize that there seems to be a lack of effort to close games out. Perhaps it’s the injuries and the need for more team leaders. But then, that all comes back to Coach doesn’t it?
An agonizing and frustrating game to watch. I’m sure it was another “Night of the Living Dead” descent from the Superdome afterward, a lot of moans and groans and that listless flatfooted exodus.
That was an exciting game. Lots of hilarious things happened. I have come to believe that football sort of defies over-analysis. You can blame or credit any little thing but it really just comes back to the fact that plastic clad men chasing after an oblong spheroid is a fundamentally absurd activity… Thus a hilarious one.
