N.O. coroner identifies murder victim as visitor from San Francisco
A small amount of Internet research produced this:
SF Gathering in Remembrance of Kirsten Brydum
And also a video of the victim:
And speaking of visitors being murdered in New Orleans, this one slipped through the cracks during the storms:
Agent’s credit cards led to arrests
DEA researcher from Woodlands was killed on visit to New Orleans
Is this really happening? Can it be that out of control? I guess city officials truly don’t give a fuck. We marched and they don’t respond. Crime cameras that don’t work. Weak criminal justice. It’s so pervasive. So what do we do now?
I remember hearing about the DEA agent and thinking that it was REALLY strange. This second murder though just drives the point home that it’s not just “thugs” that are getting killed. It’s activists, construction workers, and the damn DEA.
Lance,
Thanks for not letting this slip through the cracks. The police still have not named a suspect or made an arrest in the Jessica Hawk murder. It only took them *five days* to release the identity of Kirsten Brydum.
I think the only solution to this ineffectiveness on the part of NOPD is citizen crimefighting. We gotta fend for ourselves in fighting crime as in every other aspect of life in this city.
We may have to band together and get grants to buy cameras, hook them up to the web, and work *around* City Hall, not with them, to identify criminals and hand them over to the slowpeace.
We may have to set up our own tip-sharing network online. There is no way to work around the slowpeace, but maybe we could work together to make them more efficient?

the fbi raided a house in my hood looking for the killers of that dea agent.
My neighbors have cameras in front of their houses and from what I understand they are pretty inexpensive, like a few hundred dollars and I think you can even check them remotely. They capture the house and a good portion of the street. And it’s not “big brother” checking it, it’s regular folk. Also, no expectation of privacy to worry about because it’s a city street.
