Peter Busowski, I salute you sir.
From the Letters pages of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:
Letter of the day: New Orleans knows worth of Bush promises
When I heard President Bush promise to rebuild the Interstate 35W bridge, all I could think was, “Haven’t the people of the Twin Cities suffered enough?”
As a resident of New Orleans, I vividly recall the president’s promise, while standing in Jackson Square, to rebuild New Orleans. Two years after Katrina, there has been no progress on 90 percent of what was destroyed.
Five years after Bush declared war on Al-Qaida, the group — which had no presence in Iraq before we invaded the country — is stronger than ever, and more than 3,000 patriotic Americans are dead.
It seems as if the president has taken a page from his father’s campaign book, which is: “Say anything and do as you please.” The only people who have benefited from President Bush’s promises have been Osama Bin Laden, Karl Rove, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the Saud family and Dick Cheney.
Apparently compassionate conservatism means being compassionate to conservatives one knows personally.
The history of the difference between what Bush says and what he does should serve as a warning to the good people of the Twin Cities: Either rebuild the bridge yourselves, or resign yourselves to 20 years of detouring around the site.
