Sometimes I go back and read this…
Bush’s speech: full text

And hell, while we are on speeches, check this video of Brother Huey thinking he just got shot before delivering a speech at the Washington Press Club

Sometimes I tear up when reading Huey’s Evangeline Oak speech.
Also you may have noticed that the Fairmont Hotel may have been sold recently and could go back into commerce. This was.. when it was known as the Roosevelt Hotel, Huey’s New Orleans headquarters.
And there’s even a tall tale about a bullet hole in the wall of the Sazerac. I thank the universe that I wa sbalt to go there before the storm.
I used to take my old roomate Consuela to see the Christmas lights in the lobby every year. Because we were… you know… gay or something.
And I was just about to ask if you got lucky after. 🙂
Good Huey Long book (and I don’t mean “Huey Long” as an adjective): “Huey Long Invades New Orleans”.
The last time I was in the Fairmont, they were having a scientific glassblowers convention there. Nothing like seeing big tables of folks working Pyrex at table torches. Any hotel that would allow 9-10 oxypropane torches in its ballroom is ultra-cool and probably not Huey Long for this world…
Ya know, the rumour is that the “deduct box” was hidden under the elevator at The Roosevelt and was promptly removed after his death.
My husband’s uncle gave him an autographed copy of Every Man a King…..cool.
Huey invades Nola…gotta get that one.
