… but they sure are easy to trace.
WWL is reporting that the recently-arrested owners of Elliot’s Gun Shop sold firearms that were used in 125 murders and 500 drug-related crimes around the region.
More charges are supposedly pending. What I would like to see is the accused be charged with 125 counts of being an accessory to those murders. On the street, if a criminal supplies a gun that another uses in a robbery or murder, that person is charged as an accessory right? So what is the difference here?
What damage to our society have these people inflicted with such blatant disregard for the consequences of their actions? I sometimes wonder what is more of a threat, the criminals running the streets or those employed to enable them?
I’ve never been a huge advocate of gun control. I’ve never owned a gun either. Even with this middle-of-the-road stance, it’s hard not to demand stricter regulations in regards to firearms after this and other recent incidents.
I don’t want to ban guns. I also don’t want it to be so easy to legally or illegally gain possession of them. That’s where the NRA types always lose me, when they begin justifying assault rifles and saying that loosening of regulations will make everyone safer. It won’t make me safer because I don’t own a gun. I’m not saying I never will but I don’t want to be forced into a decision because laws were deregulated to such a degree that every nut in the neighborhood had one.
I’d rather not have the need to own one.
Anyway, I applaud the ATF for this arrest. Start at the top.
Yes, throwing all the thugs in jail may help. But eliminating the enablers might just buy young people some time to make better decisions in their lives.
Your feelings are understandable but if you lived in Uk like me, where guns are virtually unavailable, you would understand that making them illegal just means that only criminals have them.
I clearly stated that I didn’t wish to make them illegal.
I generally believe owning a gun is our right as ADULTS.
However, what does the average adult need with an AK-47.
I’m all for Chris Rock’s Knives For Guns Exchange.
“Any punk can fire from across the room, but it takes a man to get close enough to stab!”
This thread is long dead, but still I do wish that people would engage their brains and learn about propaganda, etc. An AK-47 is a fully automatic assault rifle that no one can LEGALLY own wihtout going through an enormous amount of local, state, and federal hoops. The folks that legally own weapons of this type do not, repeat…do not commit crimes with them. They are collectors, etc, and as long as they are not commiting crimes with them, why does anyone care if they have them. These folks also have huge, expensive safes that these items are locked up in because the represent thoughsands of dollars worth of investment. These folks are also generally very responsible.
What is available in a store is called an HK-47 for marketing, but is a semi-automatic weapon not unlike a semi-automatic hunting rifle sold by Remington, Browning, etc.
When one of these finds its way into a criminal’s hands, someone did something wrong. When a true AK-47 fully-automatic weapon finds its way into a criminal’s hands, someone did something wrong…very wrong!
There have been many busts of this type already, and it is amazing to learn that owners of firearm retail establishments will risk their business, their reputations, their lives, and worse the lives of others, doing these types of things. You really cannot punish them enough.
Not only do these folks cost lives, etc, but they harm lawful firearm owners everywhere. They make reasonable citizens reach unreasonable conclusions due to fear & propaganda, which leads them to make unreasonable choices followed by taking unreasonable actions.
It is true that eerywhere on this planet where the honest, lawabding citizens have been disarmed, crime only gets worse. This is not propaganda; research it ourself. Things are tough enough here in the US, with folks being victimized regularly by the powers they elected to protect them. WE don’t need tings to be worse because we lose the final freedom that was put in place to guarantee freedom in the first place.
Thank you for your time.
