Today I overheard someone on the phone say New Orleans was “getting better.” Then I heard on the radio that tourism was picking up. Then when I came home, Fema had come by and cleared out the lot behind my house. And I thought that maybe that someone was right, and the tide was turning.
Yes, crime still sucks. And it is libel to get worse as the mad blood begins to stir over the summer. But I will say this. And it’s something I have wanted to say for a while. I have lived in New Orleans four years and I have only been a crime victim once. I victimized more in Pensacola and San Diego than I have been here. Yes, crime is bad here. But women are stealing babies out of maternity wards in other parts of the country.
I painted my office (finally) and that’s good too. It also explains my lack of posting over the last week (thanks for noticing Merm). I am only one room away from finishing phase one of the house and I am pretty damn happy about that too.
That Mayor is still the Mayor. The President is till the President and The Governor is still the Governor. But they will all be gone soon too.
The babies in my neighborhood are walking and talking and smiling and that’s good.
Business is picking up at my job and revenue means taxes and money in our pockets.
Hurricane season is coming but there is no use worrying about that. They will be as random as ever. I’m not believing any predictions this year.
Let’s just keep doing what we’re doing.
Sounds like a good case of Spring Fever! May we all fall ill. 🙂
wha wha? phase one? what does phase two consist of?
I’m positive about things in my neck of the woods, too. Not perfect, not even great. But better. Every day it gets better.
Peace,
Tim
Phase two will be the much slower, less desperate phase. A deck, a half bath, a wall torn out. Less work myself and more contractors.
