His scope is short-sighted though as he blames Bush for merely the response and not the many administrations that ignored the flood protection issue and the Army Corps who designed the shitty, undermined, I-walls.
And it’s also short-sighted in that New Orleans also a testbed of corporate failure evidenced by the oil spills in Katrina, the erosion of coastal marshes and the giant oil leak that’s bleeding crude into the Gulf as we speak.
I know, corporations / government. Same damn thing.
Newt also says Obama will lose in 2012 as a result. The last thing this whole mess is going to do is elicit a Republican vote outta me. Though I’m pretty jaded on the whole system at this point. But if Newt thinks folks are going to fall in line with “spill, baby spill” due to this disaster, he’s really off his rocker.
Newt Gingrich? Retaining a tiny nugget of insight while still being completely wrong and kinda crazy? You don’t say….
I skim your blog often though not often enough to know where you sit politically. However, I did notice the above “…elicit a republican vote…” comment and cannot help but reply. When will all of us realize that it’s got nothing to do with Republican/Democrat anymore. Perhaps each are slaves to different masters but both are self-serving politicians first and it comes at the expense of those they claim to represent. Personally, i’m a live-and-let-live/please-be-fiscally-responsible kind of guy, I guess a libertarian if I had to label it. But these aren’t our parent’s democrats and republicans. I’m not sure what the answer is but I wish people would actually do some research on the candidates real track record and real positions instead of picking them because they happen to brand themselves a particular party (which as mentioned above, doesn’t matter anymore).
I agree Tmac, the two parties are the people who are running things vs. the voters. But I think the thought has been removed from politics in general. It is no longer, “Does it makes sense?” Now it is, “Does it makes sense politically?” And as that plays out, I can’t align myself those who don’t think the education system is unfair in the U.S. or that gays shouldn’t marry or that a state somehow has the right to execute its own citizens. It’s usually the lesser of the two evils for me. Back maybe 10 years ago, I would have been quite celbratory of Obama’s presidency, and at first I was. But it hasn’t taken long for me to sour on the whole thing … again.
Oh yea, and the blog only works if you do more than “skim.” It isn’t meant to be skimmed.
