Nice pics. I’ve always been fascinated with the Bonne Carre spillway. I wish I had known they were going to be testing it yesterday. This also makes me want to go check out the houses on the river at the Orleans/Jefferson parish line on the East Bank. The hypnotic power of water and fire.
I remember when they opened the spillway in 1973, and when you drove over it on I-10 west of Kenner, the water was flowing into the lake in a torrent, like whitewater rapids in places.
The environmental implications make me sad, but the awesome spectacle of nature is gonna be wicked cool.
Another good place to see the high river is at the Butterfly in Audubon Park. It’s only about 5 feet from the top of the levee at this point. I mean, the water is RIGHT THERE.
